Real Wedding - Gemma & Scott

Tell us a bit about yourself, your husband and how you met?

We met in 2012 in Malia, Greece! We then got together a year later after keeping in touch. I was based in Huddersfield at Uni and Scott was in Stoke, so we spent a lot of time travelling up and down between Stoke and Huddersfield, before living in Manchester for a couple of years and then we moved to Stoke to be closer to friends and family!

How did Scott pop the question?

He planned to ask me on my graduation day, but got too nervous so ended up doing it a couple of days before at home, which was lovely, as it was just us 2! He kept telling me all day he had a graduation present and when I got home from work he gave me a photo album of all memories and the last page said ‘Will you marry me?’.

Why did you choose Alcumlow Wedding Barn as your Wedding Venue?

We looked at a few wedding venues but Alcumlow stood out and felt so unique! I loved the barn setting with all the fairy lights! I also loved how it is one big space, so there isn’t loads of little separate rooms that everyone could separate off into on the day. I did love the courtyard too, which was amazing at night where we had the pizzas and ice cream. People actually commented that it felt like they were on holiday out there! Another thing that made our decision easy, was how friendly and helpful everyone was, we attended an open day first and then went and looked round at another time – we loved it!

Did you have a ‘theme’ for your Wedding Day?

We didn’t necessarily have a theme for the wedding. I am a perfectionist though and wanted everything to match perfectly! We had a dusky pink/mauvey colour scheme and I had a lot of dried flowers in big vases dotted around. I hired our centrepieces and a big arch backdrop from The Event Edit, and they were all pampas which fitted in perfectly with everything! I actually design and make wedding stationery alongside my job and so was able to do all the little details myself, so I tied in the colour scheme and dried flowers into the invites, table plans, welcome signs and menus etc. It was probably one of my favourite things to see all the planning and creating come together and see the venue set up!

Congrats on your upcoming bundle of joy! When did you have the idea to announce the pregnancy at the wedding?

Thank you! When we found out we were having a baby it actually turned out that we would be just over 12 weeks at the wedding, so would be perfect timing to be able to tell everyone! Our 12 week scan was the day before the wedding, and Scott actually carried the scan picture around in his suit pocket all day ready for his speech! It was the such a good feeling that he could tell everyone on our wedding day, and the reaction was fab!

Aside from the baby announcement, can you tell us your favourite moment of the day?

One of my favourite moments was actually straight after the first dance, because everyone came onto the dance floor and I remember it was ‘we are family’ playing and we were all just together dancing! Especially after the last couple of years everyone has had and not being able to all be together and having to postpone our original wedding date to be able to hopefully have everyone there, it was the best!

Alcumlow was an amazing venue to have our wedding day and the team went above and beyond! We wish we could do it all again!

Thank you Gemma and Scott! We thoroughly enjoyed being a part of your special day and wish you all the best for the exciting future you have ahead of you as a married couple.
